Jesus the Great Undoer
When I learned about computers my favourite button was "UNDO". It is precisely this that helped me put right any mistakes that I had made.
The essence of the gospel is quite clear. God sent Jesus into the world to undo all the works of Satan including the consequences of sin, death and hell. Jesus is in fact "The Great Undoer". In biblical language He is "The Last Adam" who undid all the mistakes of "The First Adam". As a result of Adam's sin we were separated from God, fear replaced peace with God and death replaced eternal life. Everything that the devil achieved and did in the Garden of Eden was undone by Christ's death on the cross and resurrection.
Shortly before his death a close friend of mine wrote down some of the blessings of Christ "The Great Undoer":
"God punished Christ for ALL MY SIN;
I can be at peace;
I am forgiven;
I am free"
A key passage on Christ "The Last Adam" is 1 Corinthians 15. Paul says that everything was lost as a result of one man's disobedience. As a result of Christ's PERFECT OBEDIENCE we got everything back.
Milton's "Paradise Lost" became "Paradise Regained"!
Paul sums up the contrast between The First Adam with the wonderful words "As in Adam all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive" (1 Corinthians 15 v 22).
The gospel message is clear. Christ is STILL undoing the works and deeds of the devil. This is clearly reflected in the well known words of the Apostle Paul
"IF ANY MAN BE IN CHRIST HE IS A NEW CREATURE, OLD THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY, BEHOLD ALL THINGS BECOME NEW" (CORINTHIANS 5 V 17)
