How big is your God?
John Brown’s “Self-interpreting Bible” was one of the best-selling family Bibles of the 19th Century. There can be no doubt whatsoever that HIS picture of Jesus was HUGE.
In the following table taken from his Bible we get an idea of this wonderful picture.
What is your favourite
Seed of the woman
The first reference to Jesus and the gospel is in Genesis 3 verse 15. The title "Seed of the woman emphasises the HUMANITY of Jesus. The Seed of the woman is Jesus which would bruise the serpent's head.
This was done on the cross by the Lord Jesus Christ. The head symbolises authority and power, and the devil's authority was smashed to pieces by Jesus' work on the cross and His resurrection.
The Word of God
The Logos or Word emphasises the divinity of Jesus. The Greek says "Theos en ho Logos" - "The Word of God (John 1 v 1. This is mind blowing.
Another amazing verse is John 1 v 14 "The Word became flesh". This is a clear statement of incarnation, the first and only such statement in the New Testament. Through the use of the word Logos John succeeds in portraying Jesus as a pre-existent Person and a particular historical individual who is both God and man.
This is seen clearly between the stark contrast between John 1 v 1 and John 1 v 14. What a wonderful Saviour!
Jesus is fully God and fully man.
