All you need is love
The Beatles song "All you need is love" is famous throughout the world.
There is little doubt that the Bible agrees fundamentally with this sentiment. John wrote that those who love are of God because “GOD IS LOVE” (1 John 4 v 8).
The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13 that without love we are NOTHING (1 Cor. 13 v 2)
There are more than 3 million people in the UK who suffer from loneliness and who feel unloved. A BBC Panorama programme shown in November 2018 deals with the subject of “catfish”. A “catfish” is a person who exploits lonely people seeking love for financial gain. The programme comes to the following conclusion,
“There are lots of lonely people seeking love online and that is why there will always be victims of “catfish”.
The absence of love in a person’s life can lead to sadness, low self-esteem and in some cases extreme behaviour. For example the man who carried out the Hungerford massacre in England and shot many innocent individuals stated that nobody loved him or cared about him. He believed that he had no purpose in life.
In the 1960s there was a successful Salvation Army gospel group called “The Joystrings” under the leadership of Captain Joy Webb.
One of their songs was called “All alone” and contained the following lyrics,
“I could walk a darkened street all alone, and without a friend to meet all alone, but the miracle in my life would make it so quite impossible to be all alone”.
God’s answer to the lonely, unloved person is very simple. He tells them and in fact the whole world
“I LOVE YOU”.
In any human relationship somebody has to make the first move, somebody has to take the initiative. The wonder of the gospel message is precisely that: God took the initiative, God took the first move (John 3 v 16. God loves us FIRST before we care about HIM. God sent His Son FIRST before we cared about Jesus.
God’s love for us is FREE.
If we trust in the Lord Jesus Christ then God’s forgiveness for us is FREE.
NOBODY in this world is excluded from God’s love.

Christmas is a time of goodwill. The gospel is a message of good news and contains a divine feel-good factor. In the words of the well-known evangelist Arthur Blessitt the following words are more important today than ever,
"SMILE JESUS LOVES YOU"

The verse John 3 v 16 contains in essence the true meaning of Christmas and the true meaning of the gospel:
“For God so loved the world that HE GAVE his only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”
The word “GAVE” is used in two distinct ways:
God GAVE HIS Son to be born as a baby at Christmas time;
God GAVE HIS Son to die on a cross at Easter time;
The motto of “Save the Children” is “NO CHILD IS BORN TO DIE”.
This is true of every child in the world APART FROM JESUS who WAS born to die so that the whole world might live!
As the apostle Paul says in Acts 16 v 31
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved”.
At this Christmas time let us all thank God for Jesus who loves us and GAVE HIMSELF FOR US.
The GREATEST GIFT anyone can receive is JESUS. Why not you?
