The Black Country Mission and the vital necessity for Bible banks
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
that comes from the mouth of God.”
The Black Country Mission was formed more than five years ago and is based on Christ’s stated ministry in Luke 4 verses 18-19 i.e. preaching and healing in the name of Jesus.
In addition the Mission has a third objective: to provide all those living in the Black Country with either a Bible or part of a Bible. In April 2016 gospels were distributed to households in Old Hill and Cradley Heath.
In November 2016 gospels were given out to households in Netherton. In 2017 the Mission intends to deliver gospels to every household in Dudley Central and in Gornal.
It is our hope that all of the Black Country will be given gospels by the end of 2021.
The Mission believes strongly in the necessity for Bible banks in churches. There is a Bible bank in each of the churches involved in the Mission: Cradley Heath Baptist Church, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Netherton, Holy Trinity Church of England Old Hill, Christian Heritage Centre at Providence Chapel, Rowley Regis and Lawrence Lane Methodist Church, Old Hill.
There can be no doubt whatsoever that it would please God if every church in the country were to have a Bible bank which would allow anybody to call in at their local church for a free Bible or part of a Bible.
Reasons for having a Bible bank
Jesus stated in John 10 verse 11 that the devil is a thief or a robber. It is quite evident that the devil has robbed our nation of the Word of God – whether in schools, the media or in government where a Christian voice is seldom heard. In the words of the prophet Amos there is in our country “a famine of the Word of God” (Amos 8 v 11).
God uses the Bible to speak to people more than any other medium or channel. God can speak through any channel but He chooses the Bible above everything else. It is “God-breathed, living, powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword”.
Without the truth of the Bible there is little if any light in this dark world. The gospel is a gospel of light – “the glorious gospel of the blessed God” (1 Tim. 1 v 11), “the power of God unto salvation” (Rom. 1 v 16), “the everlasting gospel”, (Rev. 14 v 16) “a treasure in earthen vessels” (2 Cor. 4 v 7).
In the near future it is highly likely that this freedom to preach the gospel in public and give out Bibles will be severely restricted. We need to preach publicly the Word of God and distribute it to people’s homes whilst we still have the opportunity
Conclusion
A Bible bank is not more important than a food bank but is as important. Jesus made this point quite clearly when He said “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4 v 4). It is to be hoped that the following words will be found soon on the notice-board of most churches in our land.
